H.D. Take-A-Part Rongeurs Coming Apart has its Advantages... The Moon Symbol appearing at the end of articles featured in TALKING BACK indicated availability of this option. When neither the King's horses, nor the King's men, nor the most ardent cleaning procedures can remove the debris that invariably builds up between upper and lower shaft segments reach for Buxton's New HD Take-A-Part Kerrison Punch Rongeurs. PERPLEXING PROBLEM Residue build-up between the working parts of Kerrison Rongeurs is an ongoing concern, but traditional design patterns require special screwdrivers and mechanical skills to reassemble these instruments after cleaning the affected components. Several clever modifications to the classic punch design are now on the market, but while breakdown is easier, this benefit sometimes comes at the expense of sturdiness and functional integrity. PECULIAR PARTICULARS The HD class of rongeurs from Buxton allows quick and easy disassembly/reassembly without compromise of form, function or feasibility. Depressing the ejection button and pulling the front handle arm outward disengages its connection to the upper shaft segment with a subtle pop. A simple slide and lift maneuver allows complete removal of the upper shaft and full exposure of former lee inaccessible, debris-collecting surfaces A return spring that is both out of sight and accessible! PLEASING PERFORMANCE The click 'n clean challenge offered the opportunity to introduce a new coil return spring to replace the familiar flat, wishbone design that acts to hold the jaws open and the handles apart. The coil spring is efficient, compact and comfortably seated within the removable upper half of the shaft. Tucked away in the upper shaft, the spring is out of sight and away from rubber gloves during surgery. When the rongeur is dissembled for cleaning, the spring is exposed for a good flushing. PUNCH PREPARATION After thorough cleaning and proper sterilization, the punch is ready for re-assembly. Simply line up the top shaft with its base and push the handle arm back in until it clicks. Sturdy as ever, the punch is ready for its next assignment in surgery! PANOPLY OF POSSIBILITIES The Buxton HD rongeur is available in all the familiar Buxton shaft lengths (180, 200, 230, 250, and 300 mm), bite sizes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 mm), footplate thicknesses (indicated for cervical or lumbar) and footplate angles (40° or 90°). Keeping in step with our newest introductions, the HD is also available in the optional Ramrod ejector feature and the newly introduced Moonlight ceramic coat finish.
