Manufacturers often disguise the material behind colorful high-tech brand names but the century-old technology has withstood the test of time in surgery and involves wrapped linen compressed, embedded, baked and ultimately cured in liquid resin. Materials and process transmute into a tough, sturdy material that can be safely autoclaved.
