Lift them high and lift them often with Hays elevators. A retro-curve at their distal end slips under bone to cradle and offer widest exposure. A second bend, a third of the way along the handle, provides subtle inducement for under-attentive or overanxious surgical assistants to keep lethargic, or encroaching hands out of the surgeon's way.
