    BLADE MODIFICATION IMPROVES DISSECTIONS
If cutting strength were the only measure of a scissors' worth, those plastic handled bandage scissors that can cut pennies in half would be the ultimate surgical instruments.

Over the decades blade treatments have come and gone promising super cutting abilities, only to fade, fad-like. Coatings and inserts do improve a scissors' cutting ability, but not without exacting their pound of flesh. Coatings roughen the edges in order to grab and hold the tissue against the converging blades. Such scissors have a decidedly rough feel, and their coatings will eventually wear off. Carbide inserts require a certain amount of bulk in the supporting material to which they are bonded, making the scissors look and feel heavy and off-balance. Moreover, much of the spring action of the two blades working together is lost because carbide steel does not have the flexibility of stainless.

The new Buxton Dissecting Scissors are made of only the finest stainless steel, devoid of micro-coatings and carbide inserts. A semi-sharp outer bevel allows the surgeon to cut with almost as little effort on the opening stroke of the dissecting motion as on the closing. Our scissors are exceptionally slim, with both the shafts and blades trimmed down to reduce weight, improve balance and provide optimal tactile feed-back during dissection. They are ideal for the delicate but demanding needs of hand, foot and plastic /reconstructive surgeons.
